The “In Cosmetics” international exhibition for raw materials for the cosmetics, perfumery and similar industry opened its doors once more from the past 17 to 19 April in the Barcelona. Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the meeting, the city hosted the largest world event of ingredients for personal care, bringing together the most important manufacturers of raw materials, ingredients and services (research laboratories, centres of testing, encapsulation, cosmetic biotechnology, etc.), presenting the most interesting and modern technical developments.
A separate “In-Focus” area in which this year’s theme was “Solar Beauty” explored the challenges and key success factors in the development of solar cosmetic products. A platform of innovation was designed that helped to assess the latest developments and therefore get ahead of future tendencies, with a special artificial beach area designed to encourage new ideas that gave a relaxed and original atmosphere. A program was included with a specific scientific seminar specialised in solar protection and a clinical presentation was made of skin which highlighted the harm that can be caused by exposure to the sun, as well as an interactive video on nanotechnology
Another highlight of the exhibition was the Innovation Area, which presented some of the most recent ingredients launched by the exhibitors and the most innovative beauty products. The Innovation Area was the best place at the meeting to find inspiration for new product launches.
The different companies offered a wide range of new and innovative products and services as manufacturers and distributors of raw materials and ingredients for cosmetics, manufacturers of plants, organic essence oils and testing institute and laboratories.
The prizes were given to the best ingredient in the Innovation Area, as well as the Cosmetics & Toiletries R&D award for the best active ingredient and the most creative application of the time.
Alongside the technical exhibition, 16 scientific seminars were given on Solar Protection, Cosmetogenomic Products and Alternative Methods (non-animal) for cosmetic testing, and a workgroup on “Green Formulations”. Forty-four innovation seminars were held free in two large rooms by the leading suppliers of the sector market on skin, solar and capillary care, as well as new technologies in cosmetic formulation. Thirteen presentations were also offered on current marketing trends.
The next meeting will be held in Paris (France) in April 2013
